Through a practice combining glass beads, threads and pigments, Barbara Asei Dantoni weaves forms that converse with the Kuba textiles of the Democratic Republic of Congo — notably the ntshak — where interlacings, repetition and pattern breaks compose thought in action.
In her works, the artisanal gesture becomes both a political and a poetic act — a way of inhabiting the world, and of inscribing in it a voice from elsewhere.
